Research Focus: Aquaculture research and policy development, fish seed production, hatchery management, seaweed farming, Artemia production, and Blue Economy initiatives that promote sustainable livelihoods and food security.
 

Betty Nyonje is a distinguished aquaculture scientist with extensive experience in research, policy development, and implementation of national and international aquaculture initiatives. She has served in several senior leadership roles including Head of Mariculture Division, National Project Coordinator for FAO Blue Growth Initiative projects, and member of the Blue Economy Secretariat in the Executive Office of the President.

She has led transformative projects in seaweed farming, Artemia production, hatchery development, aquaculture education, and community-based fish and shellfish production. Her work has significantly contributed to commercialization of aquaculture technologies, women empowerment, environmental conservation, and the advancement of Kenya's Blue Economy agenda.

Her scientific contributions span aquaculture systems, seed quality improvement, seaweed research, and policy formulation, with numerous peer-reviewed publications, books, and technical reports that continue to guide aquaculture development in Kenya and across Africa.
