Dr. Jacob Ochiewo, PhD, has 27 years of research experience in socioeconomics, natural resource policy analysis, development studies, governance analysis, value chain analyses, fish trade and marketing, ecosystem approach to Fisheries/Aquaculture, community training, livelihood analysis, preparation of policy briefs and science communication.

As a Research Scientist at KMFRI, Dr. Ochiewo specializes in development studies and environmental economics, applying interdisciplinary approaches to address complex challenges facing Kenya's coastal and marine resources. His work integrates socioeconomic assessments with ecological understanding to support evidence-based decision-making.

Dr. Ochiewo's research focuses on understanding the human dimensions of fisheries and aquaculture systems, analyzing how policies and governance structures impact resource-dependent communities, and developing practical recommendations for sustainable resource management that balances conservation with livelihood security.
