Research Focus: Operational oceanography, ocean circulation and heat budgets, climate change, ocean modelling, instrumentation, and the impact of ocean dynamics on marine biodiversity and conservation.
 

Ms. Damaris Mutia is an Assistant Research Scientist in the Oceanography and Hydrography Department at the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI), Mombasa. She is actively involved in major regional and international initiatives including GMES-Africa, WioSymphony, and the WIO-Benth Project.

Her research focuses on operational oceanography within the context of climate change, ocean modelling, instrumentation, and research cruises. She has undertaken extensive national and international training in Physical Oceanography and Ocean Data Management to strengthen her scientific and technical expertise.

Ms. Mutia is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Climate Change. She is passionate about ocean observations and the study of ocean circulation and heat budgets, with particular interest in understanding their influence on marine biodiversity and ecosystem conservation.
