Athman Salim Hussein is a Research Scientist specializing in Physical Oceanography with extensive experience in ocean water circulation and climate change research. His work covers both deep and shallow ocean systems, with interests in observational and theoretical ocean dynamics, ecosystem functioning, and responses to climate and anthropogenic pressures.

He is proficient in the deployment and analysis of oceanographic instruments including Rosette CTD systems, AWAC (Acoustic Wave and Current Profilers), and Thermosalinographs (TSG). He applies advanced analytical tools such as MATLAB, SPSS, Stata, R, QGIS, and Ocean Data View (ODV) to process and interpret oceanographic datasets. He also has expertise in predicting Kenya's Potential Fishing Zones.
