The newly appointed Board Chair, Dr. Wenwa Akinyi Oranga, visited KMFRI headquarters in Mombasa following her November 2024 appointment by President William Ruto. She received a warm reception from Acting Director General Dr. James Mwaluma and senior leadership before touring facilities.

Dr. Oranga commended "KMFRI's robust aquatic research activities in providing solutions to societal problems" and encouraged greater adoption of international exchange program insights. The Board Chair highlighted appreciation for the institute's "technological advancements" following lab tours and presentations.

Dr. Oranga brings distinguished credentials: she was Kenya's first woman to earn a PhD in organic/natural products chemistry from the University of Nairobi, previously served as Chief Chemist at the Pyrethrum Board of Kenya.
