Legal Counsel Jafred Erima Maliro has been appointed to the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) Board of Management as the Attorney General's representative. His appointment brings critical legal expertise and government advisory capacity to the Board, ensuring alignment with national legal frameworks and constitutional requirements.

The Counsel currently heads the Office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice (OAG & DOJ) Malindi regional office, and oversees operations of the Public Trustee function. In this capacity, he manages the AG's legal presence across the region, representing the Attorney General in all matters pertaining to national and county government where legal intervention is required.

The seasoned legal expert is also working on his research project in Master of Public Policy & Administration (MPPA) at Kenyatta University, and holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from Moi University, as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Law. He has over 13 years of legal practice experience at the OAG and DOJ in Kenya, and has also practiced law as a private advocate for more than three years.

Key Responsibilities & Achievements
  • Represents the Attorney General in all matters pertaining to national and county government in the region where the AG's legal presence may be required
  • Coordinates and manages the pupillage programme for pupils deployed in the region, mentoring the next generation of legal professionals
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of plans and activities of the regional office in line with the Strategic Plan and Performance Contract in liaison with OAG & DOJ headquarters
  • In 2016, appointed Joint Secretary to the Taskforce whose role was to review the WAKF Commissioners of Kenya Act of 1951
  • Has undertaken various management and leadership courses to enhance administrative and governance competencies
