KMFRI joins the United Nations Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN)

The Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) has been officially admitted as a member of the United Nations Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN), marking an important milestone in the Institute’s expanding global role in climate action. This achievement follows KMFRI’s recent bid for UNEP-supported mangrove project in the Republic of Togo and underscores growing international recognition of the Institute’s technical and scientific expertise.
As a CTCN member, KMFRI is now eligible to participate in bids to implement CTCN-supported projects in developing countries, take part in outreach and networking events organised by CTCN, and contribute to information sharing and capacity building on climate technologies and climate policy solutions.
KMFRI is a global leader in natural climate solutions, with particular strength in mangrove restoration and blue carbon initiatives. Our work integrates science, policy, and community-based approaches to deliver climate mitigation and adaptation benefits while supporting sustainable livelihoods.
Increasingly, KMFRI’s experts are being sought to design and implement blue carbon projects across Africa and other regions of the world. We are delighted by this nomination and look forward to collaborating closely with the CTCN network to support developing countries through high-quality, evidence-based climate technology solutions. This membership further strengthens KMFRI’s commitment to advancing innovative, nature-based responses to the global climate challenge.
