KMFRI has been undertaking oceanographic, environmental and fisheries surveys onboard the RV Mtafiti for the last two years. To share the results of these surveys and future plans KMFRI plans to have an Open Day at the Mombasa Station and invite all stakeholders (the general public, government agencies, Universities, NGO’, marine and coastal resource managers) to visit the ship and familiarise with the facilities and equipment onboard the vessel.

The stakeholder consultative meeting shall be held at the KMFRI Dolphin Conference Hall on 15th April, 2018. The Open Day is scheduled to take place on board RV Mtafiti at the Southern Engineering Co. Ltd (SECO) at Liwatoni jetty in Mombasa on 16th April 2018.

The aim of these activities is to bring together all the stakeholders and share our strategies in order to obtain feedback on areas they would like to be included. Through this consultative engagement with stakeholders, KMFRI will widen the research perspectives, creativity and innovation to ensure optimal utilization of RV Mtafiti.

In attendance will be representatives from State Department of Fisheries, Kenya Fisheries Service, Ministry of Mines and Geology, Ministry of Energy, Department of Physical Planning, Kenya Navy, National Museums of Kenya, Kenya Wildlife Services, Kenya Maritime Authority, Kenya Meteorological Services, County Governments among others, and senior staff from various universities with an interest in the coastal and marine resourcess.
